About Course

Summary Duration- 1.5 years The Master of Visual Arts is an interdisciplinary research degree for visual art graduates and creative professionals. The degree is highly flexible and caters for students from a variety of backgrounds. You will select a learning pathway that reflects your art practice and professional interests. You will work within the supportive culture of a studio environment involving group discussion, and critique of each other’s work. You have access to individual studio spaces, supervisory support and well-equipped specialist facilities. Your research will contribute to diverse and emerging dialogues around creative practice. As part of this programme you complete a 120-point thesis, which can be either a practice-based or a more theoretical research project in an area of visual arts. You also develop an understanding of research methods and ethics, and complete a number of elective papers. Specialist areas in visual arts include: Multimedia Installation Digital or moving image or new media Painting Photography Printmaking Sculpture Drawing Sound Film Performance Social art practice Collaboration Other culturally relevant media You study the following paper ARDN800 Research Methods (15 Points) And choose 45 points from the elective papers below ARDN807 Coding for Artists and Designers (15 points) VSAR800 Visual Arts Studio A (15 points) VSAR801 Visual Arts Studio B (15 points) VSAR802 Visual Arts: Contextual Review (15 points) Complete a thesis VSAR999 Thesis (120 points) Enrolment in a thesis is subject to achieving at least a B- average in coursework papers, including a pass in Research Methods and approval of research proposal.

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor of Visual Arts or equivalent with a B grade average or higher in the papers at level 7 or above Other requirements Applicants may be required to submit a portfolio of work and attend a selection interview English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with all bands 6.0 or higher; or equivalent; TOEFL iBT score of 90; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with A grade; GIE with B+ grade; CAE minimum overall score of 176; PTE minimum overall score of 58.
